The Brothers of Charity Services in Merseyside had a busy day at their annual Health and Wellbeing Day on Friday 16th March.
Staff and the people we support attended the event which enabled everybody to speak to local health related organisations, as well as to find out about training available and employee benefits through Medicash.
Quit Squad, a local stopping smoking service, gave an insight into the damage of smoking with jars filled with phlegm and tar from smoking 5 a day, 10 an day and 20 a day to show the effects of smoking on people’s bodies. Medicash was also at the event and informed staff about what benefits that they are entitled to through the Medicash programme. Who knew we could save so much! Staff are eligible to save money on aspects such as dental and optical care, cinema tickets, even their favourite high street shops and plenty more. By logging onto https://medicash.corporateperks.com/login , eligible staff are able to collect points or get money off these things.
The Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire’s social enterprises, Roccoco and Crafty Uniforms had stalls at the event. Roccoco were displaying tubs of blended fruit and vegetables, for people to try fruit and vegetables in a different way to what they are used to, and also to see if they could recognise the taste to guess what was in each tub. Crafty Uniforms held a small craft session for people to get involved with, making and decorating baskets from a template that they had prepared.
Stephenson College, which provides distance learning courses to the Brothers of Charity Services was also at the the event with information about the courses that they offer to staff, more information can be found here.
The Citizens Advice Bureau, South Liverpool also had a stall to raise awareness about the services that they offer, including advice on debt matters, money management, welfare benefit and housing matters.
Health Watch Liverpool, which works to give a voice to users of the NHS and social care services in Liverpool, also came along to the event to ensure that all individuals are well informed about the options that are available to them and given the opportunity to improve their wellbeing as much as possible. They were offering advice regarding many aspects such as: GP/Dental care, anxiety or stress, care for another individual and general support. The day was finished off by a first aid tutorial given by Adrian, a first aid trainer from Arc Training. He did a fantastic job at getting everybody involved when he gave a demonstration on what to do if somebody has a cardiac arrest or begins to choke. As we know this information is really important and everybody should be taught the correct way to handle these situations. Adrian filled everybody with useful information and tips to remember if they happen to need them in the future. Everyone found the sessions really useful and entertaining, inspiring them to sign onto an official first aid course.
