Imageink’s Disco Food Donations

Research has revealed that Merseyside is the worst hit region in the country, with 56,111 per year, or 154 people each day, reliant on emergency parcels of food and basic household supplies. Of these, more than 20,000 are children.

Karen Heeson (Acting Senior Support worker at Imageink) visited the Food Bank at St Andrews Community Network on Friday 18th December with a large contribution of food that will be distributed across the North Liverpool Area. Karen has been working with Jan and Donna at Imageink collecting food at their weekly disco.
The entry fee for the weekly Imageink disco was wavered and the people we support brought an item of food instead and before long we had two full boxes of food.
Food comes from all over the city to the North Liverpool Foodbank warehouse, located at St Andrews Community Network. Volunteers showed Karen around the warehouse and explained how food was collected and prepared for distribution across the Liverpool area.
Lots of people need help at this time of year and the volunteers work hard to make sure people have basic food for 3 days but also have some special Christmas treats too.
Karen also visited an area where clothes are collected and distributed to people in need of warm coats and jumpers during the winter months.
We heard that in the last year we have seen things get worse, rather than better, for many people on low incomes. It’s been extremely tough for a lot of people, with parents not eating properly in order to feed their children. It was good to know we were able to share some of what we had with others who live in our community.
