BOCS Merseyside’s Health and Wellbeing Day

On Friday 24th March, The Brothers of Charity Services held a Health and Wellbeing Day at their Thingwall Hall site in Broadgreen, Liverpool.

A variety of health and wellbeing related activities and stalls, representing local organisations were present at the event. Stalls included the NHS promoting 5-a-day with free fruit bags, Health MOTs, Sexual Health Services, alcohol/ stop smoking advice and Knowsley College treating people with manicures and massages. There was lots of useful information for people to access to help them to stay fit and healthy.

Exhibitors at the event included:

The first year hair and beauty students at Knowsley College provided an extra treat to attendees with wonderful manicures, hand massages, neck and back massages which were very much enjoyed.

Outside, while the sun was shining, the first leg of the Red Nose Day 5-a-side Tournament took place as part of the Health and Wellbeing day. The teams, Thingwall Warriors and BlueBOCS, played a very exciting game finishing at 2-2. The game finished with a penalty shootout, where BlueBOCS took the win on sudden death. They will now go on to play in the Tournament Final at the Brothers of Charity Services Heritage Day later this year.

Liverpool John Moores University Sports Development students Jack and Chris and their tutor Stephen helped to referee the football match and provided a fun Inclusive Sports session, demonstrating and playing nerf ball with everyone who wanted to get involved, this was enjoyed by all.

Everybody who attended the Health and Wellbeing Day found it really fun and informative, we have received plenty of positive feedback, including:

“Very informative day, I attended most of the stalls. I have learned many things I was unaware of.”

“Today’s event was excellent! The girls at the nail bar and hand massage were so friendly, as was all the other people involved in the day. Really good day!”

“Everyone was very friendly, approachable and helpful. Was worth coming to, even for people with no health problems, it reminded you of these things. Thanks a lot!”

We would like to give a huge thank you to all of the local organisations that attended the event, Knowsley College Hair and Beauty Students, Liverpool John Moores University who helped with the Football Tournament and provided the Inclusive Sports session and to Sophie Cummings for organising such a fun event!
