May Promotion

As part of Health BOCS, the Brothers of Charity Services’ health and wellbeing programme, throughout May we promoted Dementia Awareness Week.

Dementia Awareness Week

Dementia Awareness Week, also known as Dementia Action Week, took place on 17th – 23rd May 2021. During this week, everyone is asked to take actions, both large and small to help make everyday life better for those with Dementia; working to create a dementia-friendly UK where those with Dementia do not feel excluded.

Nearly 1 million people with Dementia in the UK and their families are struggling to get the support and care that they need and deserve. Until matters change, a Dementia diagnosis will continue to claim more than one life, as families facing dementia feel its destructive effects.

With the right support people with dementia will be given the opportunity to live a good quality of life, doing what matters most to them for as long as possible.

During the weak a range of fundraising events from sports events to bake offs and quizzes, will be taking pace across the UK for this amazing course.

National Volunteers Week

National Volunteers Week is a time to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK.

It takes place on 1st – 7th June every year and is an opportunity to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity. During the week, hundreds of events and celebrations take place across the country.

Diabetes Awareness Week.

Diabetes Awareness Week 2021 will be happening from 14th – 20th June. This year, everyone will be sharing their Diabetes stories from all corners of the UK. Here we will take a look back on an extraordinary year and looking forward to what’s to come for the diabetes community.

Diabetes is complicated and hard to understand for people who aren’t dealing with the condition, so this week aims to help people to know more about diabetes. Not just as a condition, but about how it feels to live with it.

National Carers Week

The National Carers Week campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities and highlight the vital role carers play in our communities, drawing attention to just how important caring really is.

The week also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much needed support. There are over 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers, looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older.

Learning Disability Awareness Week

This year’s Learning Disability Week will take place on 14th – 20th June. The theme will be art and creativity.

For many people with a learning disability and their families , getting creative has been a way to stay connected and positive throughout the challenges of last year. Unfortunately we have found that people living with a learning disability are up to twice as likely to experience mental health problems, due to many factors such as discrimination and social isolation.
