On Friday 12th July the Brothers of Charity Services celebrated their annual Heritage Day at Lisieux Hall in Chorley, with the theme of the day being advocacy.
The day started off with an amazing performance from our Sing and Sign Choir, led by Daniel Hall, our Regional Advocacy and Community Engagement Co-Ordinator. Everyone in the choir thoroughly enjoyed being part of the day and we loved watching their performance!
The final of the Health BOCS Football Tournament followed on from the beautiful performance. It was a very tense game between the Thingwall Warriors, our Merseyside Team, and Gardening FC, our Lancashire team, were they play each other for the BOCS Heritage Shield. A very excited crowd from both services gathered to show their support in hope to see their team win. The game was very close with the two teams giving it their best shot to become to new champions. After an amazing hat trick from David, The Thingwall Warriors were crowned the winners, winning 4-3 with some great goals score by both teams!
Whilst the football match was under way, the Heritage Day stalls in the courtyard and social centre were starting to fill up with customers. Our social enterprises had a variety of activities for people to get involved with. Pets Corner brought along their fury friend, who everyone took a real shine to! Crafty Uniforms had a stall of homemade jewellery and other craft objects. Clare from our Lancashire Services also had a stall promoting Guide Dogs; a charity which is very close to Clare’s heart. The Walled Garden team had some fun activities for everyone such as Huck a Duck and Splat the Rat. We also had a kind visit from Lancashire Police promoting the awareness of hate crime. As well as the stalls, Roccoco another social enterprise, provided hot dogs and lasagne and a range of delicious cakes which were enjoyed by everyone. With the hot weather on our side, the ice cream went down a treat!
After an exciting football match, everybody headed over to the Chapel were some of the people we support and members of staff performed an amazing rendition of Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. The singing and acting was fabulous and they really got the crowd going! Our wonderful Dreamcoat was kindly made by a member of staff from Crafty Uniforms, and it looked amazing. Well done to everyone involved in the production, you really put a smile on everyone’s faces!
With everybody in high spirits after the fabulous production, everyone made their way back to the courtyard were they all enjoyed a lovely performance from Tabu. The duo performed a selection of music from the 80’s and 90’s along with current hits by artists such as George Ezra and Chase and Status. Their music got everybody up dancing and singing along! To end a wonderful day, many people won lots of prizes in the raffle.
Heritage Day 2019 was a great event that brought clients, staff and the community from across the services together to celebrate the heritage of the Brothers of Charity Services. The day gave everybody a chance to meet and interact with new people and to have a fun filled day out with their friends and colleagues. Thank you to everyone who came along and shown their support to help make the day so special.
What an amazing day we all had in the glorious weather. All money raised on the day will go towards future events for the Brothers of Charity Services.
