Lancashire’s Health and Wellbeing Day 2019

Our Lancashire Services held their Health and Wellbeing Day on Wednesday 20th March 2019 at Lisieux Hall. The event was jam-packed with Health and Wellbeing activities and stalls for staff and the people we support to get involved with.

Whist the sun was peeking through the clouds, the day got underway with a selection of activities delivered by Preston’s College. This included giant ten pin bowling with a football, outdoor curling and basketball target practise, with the bowling being a huge hit with everyone! Boccia was also held inside the training room for those who wanted to have a go at the sport. It was great to see everyone get involved with the activities and the amount of enjoyment they brought to staff and the people we support.

Following on from the fantastic outdoor games, the HealthBOCS walking football match kicked off at 11am. The two competing teams, Heaton Street & Co. and Walled Garden & Co., were both determined to win, making it a tense and exciting game for the football players as for the crowd that came to watch. The end score was 8 -3, making Heaton Street & Co the winners! Congratulations to the team, and also to everyone who took part and scored a goal! Goal scorers included Phil, Jonathon, Dale, Eddie and Jacob. Fran also scored a goal and was nominated as woman of the match by a large majority of the players! Heaton Street & Co. will now go on to play our Merseyside Services’ football team in the HeathBOCS final on Heritage Day, which is being held at Lisieux Hall on 12th July 2019.

As well as the great range of fitness related activities, stalls were being held in the training room. We were joined by three of our social enterprises who all had their own stalls; including Crafty Uniforms, Pets’ Corner and Roccoco Coffee Lounge. Roccoco’s stall included a pasta making workshop were the team demonstrated how easy it is to make your own pasta! As well as it being educational, it was great fun for everyone who joined in.

We also had a visit from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Clare from our Lancashire Services came along with her guide dog, Rascal, to promote the charity which is very close to her heart. Clare brought along with her a range of information as well as glasses which demonstrates the different levels of vision loss. For more information about Guide Dogs, click here.

Thank you to the HR Team for making our Health and Wellbeing Day a great success and a big thank you to Preston’s College, our social enterprises and Clare for joining us for the day! Thank you to everyone who came along and to the football teams for taking part in our HealthBOCS match!
