Social Enterprise Blog 20/02/19

The Brothers of Charity Services have various Social Enterprises for adults with learning disabilities; services are designed to support people to develop skills with confidence in a supportive working environment whilst offering services in the local community.

The social enterprises carryout lots of great, fun, activities for the people we support and the local communities to get involved with. Here you will be able to find out what each of the social enterprises have been up to this week.

Crafty Uniforms

Our amazing team recently supported the delivery of a Community Craft Session for the Toddler group at Chorley Methodist Church. Everyone had a fabulously sticky and glittery time creating these awesome Chinese Lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year. This year it’s the Year of the Pig!

Thanks to all our fabulous team at Crafty Uniforms especially Joanne, Emily and Lee.

Our wonderful team of artful crafters have been exceptionally busy! They’ve been preparing for our forthcoming Community Craft sessions as well as for our next window display. They’ve also been using an arts and crafts technique, decoupage, to decorate stock boxes. The team have enjoyed some creative activities and all have had a wonderful time!

Our Crafty Team have been busy preparing our Valentine’s window display which is brimming over with LOVE. We recently shared the first two hearts; the 1st one says ‘We’ and the 2nd says ‘Love’. We asked you to guess what the 3rd word would be. We had the following guesses: ‘We Love… Chorley, You, Love, People, Everyone’, but the nearest guess to the word on our heart was ‘Pre-owned’, which was posted by Tracey Robinson, whose guess was very similar to the word we chose, ‘Pre-loved’! Well done everyone for all your comments, it was great fun seeing all the suggestions coming in.

This month we’ve had to disappoint several of our customers who were asking for school uniforms as unfortunately our shelves were bare. We hope that you might be able to help! 😃

We would greatly appreciate pre-loved donations of the following items:
– Duke Street School uniforms, especially sweatshirts
– Scouts/Cubs sweatshirts
– St. Michael’s skirts & jumpers

We would be really grateful if any of our lovely customers could help us fill our shelves with any of the above pre-loved items! You can drop off donations from Monday to Friday at our shop; 58 Pall Mall, Chorley. Thank you!

Our fabulous team members, Emma, Claire, Lee and Emily supported by Karen, delivered two sessions last week around the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ at Buttermere Toddler Group and Chorley Methodist Church’s Toddler group. The children had a great time getting crafty, and a little bit messy, whilst colouring in a scene from the story. Both sessions were rounded off with ‘story time’. The children loved listening to the story, especially the age old
phrase…”Run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m The Gingerbread Man”!

Last week to celebrate Valentine’s Day, our fabulous team were engaged in several love-filled activities including a card making session at Home Start. The team were also busy making cards for their own loved ones in our craft room; fun and laughter resounded whilst everyone got stuck in!

As well as our craft session, our team had a fun outing in to Chorley to spread the Valentine’s Day cheer by handing out love hearts adorned with positive messages. Our team received lots of smiles in response to our love filled gestures; let’s hope many of you can feel the love too!
