The Brothers of Charity in Sri Lanka’s Nisansala Special Training Centre held their Christmas Concert on the 6th December and shared a lovely video with us that can be viewed here.
The Brothers of Charity St Joseph’s Region, that the English Services are part of, support the world wide mission and provide significant level of co-operative resources to the BOC in Sri Lanka led by Lucian Ranasinghe. The mission was set up in the early 1990’s, with the mission’s management team led by Brother Gregory Boyle on behalf of the St Joseph’s Region of the Brothers of Charity. The aim was to provide supports to individuals and families that would be in line with the local culture and with best international practice. This was to be achieved through enriching the personal life of each individual that was supported by offering real choice and real control over their own lives and by showing love and respect in the BOC’s every action as inspired by the Christian Gospels.
Today, the Nisansala Centre provides training and care for 170 children and young adults with a learning disability and their families. Similar to the English Services, the emphasis has shifted towards providing support to families in facing the daily challenge of ensuring that their family member with a learning disability is facilitated in living as full a life as possible in his or her local community.
The Christmas Concert video shows a sample of the great, positive work carried out by the BOC in Sri Lanka and we hope you enjoy watching it!
