Volunteer Walk for National Volunteer Week

Bob Clare, a volunteer at the Brothers of Charity Services, once again organised the Volunteers Walk and Picnic on 6th June.

The walk is arranged every year to celebrate National Volunteers Week, making it a great reason for volunteers from local organisations to get together and catch up.

The weather was awful, but walkers from the different organisations braved the rain and wind in their walk through Cuerden Valley Park and on to Lisieux Hall.

The volunteers were met with a warm welcome when they arrived at St Theresa’s chapel. BOCS’ pastoral volunteers, Agnes Paul and Michael Holden, had made hot drinks to warm the group up. Everyone had a lovely chat while enjoying their picnic lunches.

Voice for All members, Lizzie McClennan and Becky Gammon gave a really interesting talk about the work VfA are involved in and all the fun and good times they enjoy, involving many other people. The walkers were amazed at the scope of the work they do and the excellent events they arrange for everyone.

After lunch, everyone walked up to Buckshaw Village Mound to have their picture taken. No matter the weather, this event is always enjoyed by all.

Well done to volunteers, Margaret Fielding and Mark Bleasdale, for completing the walk despite the elements! Also, thanks so much to Bob for arranging this event each year; we are very grateful.
