CaritaSE is a new horticultural scheme at The Brothers of Charity Services that aims to bring new Social Employment and Social Enterprise outcomes, opportunities and purpose to all across our Merseyside and Lancashire Services.

The CaritaSE Supported Employment and Social Enterprise programmes offer and employment service assisting people with learning disabilities, mental health concerns and autism to access social inclusion and engagement through meaningful employment experience and vocational training opportunities.

Here at CairtaSE we are offering a range of apprenticeships and vocational training for young adults, providing real life experience within a quality training environment.

As a subsidiary of The Brothers of Charity Services England, CaritaSE holds true to the values, ethos and mission that have guided the organisation for over 100 years. By upholding these values CaritaSE aims to provide a positive experience for all, while delivering professional training and horticultural services throughout.

Our team believe that by providing excellent training and development today, we can shape a brighter future for all.

We have spoken to a number of our current apprentices about the tasks that they carry out on a daily basis as well as what they enjoy the most about their apprenticeship. We’ve had a fantastic response from our hardworking apprentices and proud to share the below case studies.

Jordan says ‘I chose an apprenticeship at The Brothers of Charity Services as I wanted a more hands on approach to his education and found this apprenticeship offered better opportunities for this the traditional route. It has also allowed me to further develop my passion for horticulture in a learning environment. I found the recruitment process really easy and straight forward and received lots of guidance throughout the process from the application to acceptance.

My role as Ground Maintenance Operative means I am responsible for all aspects of grounds and gardens maintenance. My favourite part of the job is the ability to take part in transforming people’s gardens into their dream garden.  In the future, I hope to progress within the organisation. I have learned so much here at The Brothers of Charity Services and the management have been so supportive I wish to continue my carer within this welcoming environment.

I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship with CaritaSE to my family and friends. I feel the best advice I could give to anyone looking at their next step is to follow your passion. If you find an apprenticeship doing what you love then you will enjoy every moment you spend learning.’

Katie says ‘I always has the feeling that university wasn’t for me because I prefer to learn realistic workplace environments. My apprenticeship at The Brothers of Charity Services provides experience rather than just the theory behind a job role which builds up an insight into the operational function of the organisation. Over the couple of years before starting my apprenticeship, I completed 3 eight week placements within the organisation which I enjoyed because I have an interest in business administration. When I heard that there was an apprenticeship available, I submitted my application immediately.

My role as Apprentice Administrative Assistant involved recording jobs for our maintenance team and delegating them to staff as well as contacting a contractor if necessary. I schedule in our offsite properties for garden services and log the invoices onto our database. My favourite part of the job is interacting with different members of the team and helping them in any way that I can as I think it’s important to have good working relationships. In the future I hope to gain permanent employment and progress through the organisation with training and qualifications.

I would recommend an apprenticeship to friends and family as it is the first step in the process of starting full time work. The advice I would give is to choose an apprenticeship with a variety of tasks, adequate support for apprentices and opportunities for progression.’
