University graduate Katy Handley, recently embarked upon a grueling training regime in order to prepare for her Edinburgh Marathon challenge. Katy set her sights on completing the marathon to kindly raise money for The Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire who have supported her brother for over 10 years. Unfortunately, due to the current global pandemic, the race was cancelled- but this didn’t stop Katy. Instead, Katy redoubled her efforts and found a Covid safe marathon being held in the New Forest. This was her new mission.

Katy’s brothers has been a resident at Lisieux Hall Supported Living for a decade and this has seen his independence and capabilities grow and develop massively. For this, Katy is so appreciative of all the care and support her brother has received, especially during the pandemic crisis, that she felt she wanted to show just how much The Brothers of Charity Services means to her and her family by undertaking a truly mammoth physical challenge.

Katy took her inspiration for the challenge from her boyfriend, who has ran several marathons, and helped train relentlessly for her new endeavour. In order to maintain her motivation, Katy created an open Spotify playlist and asked her friends to add songs to show their support. This all contributed to her tremendous efforts, which resulted in Katy completing the race in an impressive 4 hours and 14 minutes and raising an incredible £2,658 for The Brothers of Charity Services.

Katy will be invited to a celebration at Lisieux Hall as soon as the pandemic restrictions allow. Congratulations Kathryn and thank you for your extremely kind donations.
