The Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire had a busy day at their annual Health and Wellbeing Day on Tuesday 24th April 2018.
Staff and the people we support attended the event which enabled everybody to speak to local health related organisations, as well as to find out about training available to them.
The day started off with a football match between our gardening teams and several members of staff, taking place at 11am, with both teams putting in a great effort. After an enjoyable match, the winners where Gardening FC! Thank you to everyone who took part.
Lancashire Care- Quit Squad, a local stopping smoking service, gave an insight into the damage of smoking with jars filled with phlegm and tar from smoking 5 a day, 10 a day and 20 a day to show the effects of smoking on people’s bodies. The Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire’s social enterprises, Roccoco and Crafty Uniforms had stalls at the event. Roccoco were displaying tubs of blended fruit and vegetables, for people to try fruit and vegetables in a different way to what they are used to, and also see if they could recognise the taste to guess what was in each tub. Crafty Uniforms held a small craft session for people to get involved with, making and decorating baskets from a template that they had prepared.
Stephenson College, which provides distance learning courses to the Brothers of Charity Services was also at the event with information about the courses they offer to staff, more information can be found here.
Active Nation, a leisure centre in the Chorley area, came to promote the sports and activities that are available at the centre for people of all ages. A member of staff from Active Nation kindly volunteered to referee our football tournament that took place earlier on in the day. Click here for more information.
Meet ‘N’ Match, is a dating agency for individuals with learning disabilities. When matching members they take into consideration age, likes/dislikes, hobbies/interests and the kind of person somebody is looking for. It is a great way to boost peoples confidence if they are unsure about dating. The staff at Meet ‘N’ Match came to promote the organisation to see if anybody was interested in joining.
We also had a visit from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Clare who is supported by our Lancashire Services came along with her guide dog Rascal to promote the work our charity does. Clare provided information on blindness and had glasses for people to try which demonstrated the different levels of sight and issues people can experience.
