This is the 4th Year that a walk has been organised to celebrate the contribution volunteers make to local charities and NGOs in general and to the Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire in particular.

This year the walk will start with a short presentation about Cuerden Valley Park which will be given to the participants before they set off on the walk at 11.00am. Michael Swarbrick who leads the weekly health walks has kindly agreed to lead us on a suitable route to the Brothers of Charity Services’ in Lancashire’s site at Lisieux Hall.

There will be another presentation here with the help of the Voice For All group, the Brothers of Charity Services self advocacy group followed by a picnic close to the Chapel (or perhaps in the chapel should the weather be inclement!) Afterwards the walkers will go to the viewpoint, known locally as the Mound, in keeping with the tradition of previous National Volunteers Week Walks. From here arrangements will be made to lead participants back to the start.

The walk is open to all. Total length six miles but those who do not have the time to do full walk can join at Lisieux just for the short walk to the Mound after lunch.

This is a social event – an opportunity for volunteers from different groups to meet. It is not a fundraising walk.

It is remarkable that Cuerden Valley Park seems to be a hotspot for so many organisations that involve volunteers with their work and this walk is a way of highlighting and celebrating the contribution volunteers make in Chorley, South Ribble and Preston.

The walk is organised by Lancashire Dotcom Walkers – part of thewww.lancashirewalks.com website. For further details about the walk contact Bob Clare 01772 748325.
