On Saturday 1st July members of our Pastoral Group went on a Retreat to Whalley Abbey.
The theme was “It’s good to be good”.
Initially we had circle time discussing the subject using various examples in a fun way. Then the group was asked to rate their own goodness on a scale of 1 to 10, some were very good, giving themselves 12 out of 10! The range of scores indicated that we all could improve our “Goodness” so we then discussed ways in which we could do this.
This discussion continued until lunch time when we had a delicious meal with a selection of main courses and sweets. After the meal many of the group decided to have a walk around the grounds of the Abbey as it was such a beautiful day.
Before resuming our retreat we sang Happy Birthday to Sonya as her birthday was due a few days later.
The afternoon session began with Tony McDonald giving us a Godly Play story of “The Good Samaritan”. This was a very quiet and moving time, giving us all something to think about and to consider which of the characters in the story were good and which were bad.
After a short break we had a period best described as “Make A Happy Noise” Andrew had brought a number of instruments and we banged and rattled to our heart’s content, I hope no musicians were listening!!
The Retreat ended with a few prayers in the Chapel before we all made our way home tired but spiritually renewed.
