This February half term saw a fun packed week at the Brothers of Charity Services’ social enterprises, Pets Corner and The Walled Garden.
Both enterprises put on a week of activities including arts and crafts, gardening and learning about animals. People of all ages attended throughout the week, from across Lancashire. While the children took part in the activities, their parents were able join in, or enjoy tea, coffee and a walk around the beautiful grounds of The Walled Garden, Astley Park and Worden Park.
The highlight of the week for Pets Corner was the animal handling session where children could handle the animals such as rabbits, reptiles and chickens as well as learn how to care for them. During the week, pet’s corner also held craft days showing children how to make owls out of paper plates and animal toys out of natural materials. Another session was to teach children the importance of looking after the British Wildlife, children could make a bird feeder out of pine cones to hang in their gardens.
All attendees enjoyed the activities at half term, one visitor commented: “My daughters had a lovely time handling the guinea pigs and rabbits this morning – thank you!”
The highlight of the week at The Walled Garden was a session on an introduction to gardening. Volunteers at The Walled Garden showed the children around their garden with interesting facts and information which they could take away to use in their own garden. Throughout the week, The Walled Garden also held arts and crafts activities themed around springtime, the weather and encouraging kids to play outside with their new creations.
All donations received by running activities will be used towards the upkeep of the animals in Pets Corner and the upkeep of The Walled Garden.

Friday 3rd Cuddle for a coin – Handle your Pets Corners favorite animal for a donation of 50p which goes to the upkeep of Pets Corners animals.
Wednesday 8th Reptile Handling – Come down to Pets Corners and join in our handling session where we will be getting out our reptiles.
Chick watch – Chick watch Come and watch our eggs incubate and baby chicks hatch.
Thursday 9th Easter egg hunt – Explore Pets Corner inside Find all the different types of eggs and win a small prize.
Friday 10th Pebble pets – Come and get creative and messy and have a go at painting your favourite animal on pebbles.
