A number of the people we support from our Lancashire and Merseyside Services recently attended the annual Blackpool Advocacy Conference, which was held from 26th to 28th February 2019. The theme for the event was Advocacy!

The group from the Brothers of Charity Services descended on the Grand Hotel for 3 days of workshops. They discussed issues affecting the North West and were given the opportunity to talk to leaders from the main local authorities and the NHS. There was lots of fun to be had as well and everyone had a great time making new friends and letting their hair down at night!

Over the 3 days, there were lots of workshops to attend on a range of subjects such as Advocacy, how to get your voice heard, dancing workshops, and Brexit; everyone learnt a lot! The first night the people we support and staff took part in a music quiz which they came joint first with 2 other tables; all of the winners won chocolate eggs!

The highlight of the second night was Gala Dinner, were everyone got dressed up and headed to the main hall for an amazing 3 course dinner! The night didn’t stop there and the group put on their dancing shoes and boogied the night away on the dancefloor. The photobooth was also a great hit for everyone who attended, and the people we support had lots of photos taken in it!

On the last day, everyone met with the leaders from the local authorities to work on action plans for each area. It was a great opportunity for the people we support to get their voices heard and work together with the local authorities to make things better for everyone.

Everyone who attended from the Brothers of Charity Services had an amazing time at the Advocacy Conference and can’t wait for the next event!
